Why chemistry is important and how tutoring can help.

Why is chemistry so important?

Chemistry, with the help of its close relations (Maths, biology and physics), explains the world we live in. And in so doing provides a means to improve our lives. Green chemistry is leading the way to a better, more sustainable environment. In agriculture, chemistry helps in the running of a successful farming business. And in medicine, chemistry explains how the body works and, in so doing, enables us to design drugs to fix these workings should they go awry. Because of its importance, chemistry is one of the core subjects at GCSE. And a good chemistry A Level strengthens your application if you want to study many degrees at university including medicine and veterinary science. It is, of course, essential if you want to study chemistry in Further Education.

Chemistry provides students with a key skill set. One of organisation, critical thinking, problem solving and creativity, practical skills, independence and team work. These skills are highly sought after by universities and employers around the world. They also help in many other subjects, and areas, of a student's life. Chemistry complements geography, science and Maths at GCSE and A Level but has, perhaps surprising, links to many other subjects including history and art.

How can tutoring help?

The only real rule in chemistry is that for every rule there is an exception to that rule! Chemistry is fun but demanding and it only takes small areas of misunderstanding to make understanding it frustratingly challenging. Because it is tricky it is easy for students to fall behind quickly when they do misunderstand. A skilled chemistry tutor makes chemistry more simple and, put simply, even more fun. By bringing the subject to life in your home it is easier for a student to apply it to real life and therefore understand it.

Chemistry GCSE and A Level have a significant amount of Maths in them. Whilst the Maths itself is not overly challenging, the way in which it is presented in the context of chemistry is. Therefore it is an element of chemistry qualifications that students frequently struggle with. Tutoring can help bridge the gap between Maths and science, turning seemingly baffling, wordy calculations questions into a student's friend.
