Why is Maths so important today and how can tutoring help?

Why is Maths so important?

Maths is more important than ever before in today's world. Besides, and because of, it's essential role in our everyday, Maths is a compulsory subject throughout the key stages up to and including GCSE (Key Stage 4) and a flexible subject to study for A Level and at university. What this means is that Maths must be studied by your child until the end of Year 11 at which point they must attain a pass (Grade 4). If they do not do this they will need to continue studying Maths until they achieve a pass or turn 18. Maths is at the core of many subjects, particularly the sciences, and therefore schools and colleges routinely require students to achieve a grade 6 or 7 at GCSE to study sciences at A Level. At A Level Maths is a fantastic subject to study because the skills acquired, including problem solving and logic, are highly valued by universities and in the work place. The same can be said at degree level. Add to this the beautifully simple logic of this often complicated but fantastically creative and most essential of subjects and it is easy to see why Maths has such a prominent role in our children's education and many choose for this to be so having completed their GCSEs.

How can tutoring help?

Tutoring can have a very valuable role to play at any stage in your child's education. In the early key stages it is crucial that your child develops a fluency in the basic Maths they will later use in Secondary education. As a parent it can be a tricky and daunting task encouraging your child to do Maths at home. Children often see school and home as places of work and play, respectively. A tutor provides the ideal bridge between the two, enabling your child to practise Maths at home in a low-stress way.

The way in which Maths is taught has evolved significantly over the years. An experienced professional has the depth and breadth of knowledge to develop your child's understanding and confidence quickly and to an outstanding level. Again, a tutor bridges the gap between school and home, preparing students for a life with Maths and exams whilst minimising stress.

There is no one-size-fits-all in learning and Maths is no exception. Sometimes students need one-to-one teaching to find the best methods for their brain. This can have a hugely positive impact on their fluency and confidence.

Finally, as with anything in life, practice makes perfect. There are so many revision guides and workbooks on the market that choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. A tutor can provide the quality time needed and the appropriate resources to perfect your child's Maths at any age and any stage in their journey through education.
